At the First United Methodist Church of Loomis we seek to share the Love of Christ with all children and youth.
We have enthusiastic adults and youth ready to greet your kids as they arrive on campus.
Each Sunday, the children join their families at the 9:00 and 10:30 worship services and are invited up front during the Children’s Time. After the Children’s Time, they are escorted out of the sanctuary by a youth or adult leader to their Godly Play classrooms. Learn more about Godly Play Sunday School below.
Children of all ages are always welcome in worship, but we also offer nursery care all morning on Sundays for our youngest church goers. From 9:00 a.m. until noon, the nursery is open and staffed with loving caregivers. The nursery is located behind the sanctuary on the east side of our campus. There is also a rocking chair available in the choir room, which is located inside between the sanctuary and the women’s restroom.
Godly Play Sunday School
During both of our worship services, children Pre-K through third grade experience God and recognize the presence of Christ through storytelling and wondering questions. Bible stories come alive with beautiful teaching tools where children interact with the stories of God. Our teachers have participated in an intense Godly Play curriculum training and have been fingerprinted and background checked to ensure the safest environment for our children. While we take Christian Education seriously, we also foster a warm and fun environment to make the children feel comfortable and supported by their church family. Children can be picked up in their classroom after the worship service in the modular building next to the preschool.
Sunday mornings at 9:00, 4th – 8th graders are invited to attend Sunday School. This class follows a varietal curriculum ranging from hands-on projects to learning about current issues and our response as Christians, to fun videos, Easter and Christmas studies, and service projects. 4th – 8th graders can be picked up in the Bamboo Room behind the sanctuary after the worship service.
Vacation Bible School
Each summer we provide an opportunity for the community to bring their children to join with other children in the church in learning more about God, Jesus and their faith. Through wonderful stories, interactive projects, music, games, and crafts children deepen their relationship with God. Children ages 3 through 5th grade are invited to attend and youth 6th grade and up are invited to serve as helpers.
CAF (Christian Adventure Fellowship)
6th-8th graders are invited to CAF, which typically meets on Sundays. We often enjoy a meal together followed by an activity which includes everything from discussions and sharing to special events such as bowling and movie days or helping a homebound church member with yard work and serving the homeless at Gathering Inn. Please check the calendar for the latest activities.
MYF (Methodist Youth Fellowship)
9th-12th graders are invited to MYF, which typically meets for special events. Please check the calendar for the latest activities!
Sierra Service Project
Each summer the youth spend a week doing home construction and repairs on homes for Native American families on reservations in California, Nevada, Oregon and Arizona or doing the same in urban areas such as Los Angeles. This is a service project that builds faith, character, and friendships through hard work and reflection.
Wonder Workers Jr
Out of SSP, Wonder Workers Jr. was born. Feeling the impact of a week of service in the summer, the youth wanted to carry this through the entire year. Wonder Workers Jr. is an organized way the youth help those in need in our own church community through yard work, painting, and cleaning.
Others areas of service include the United Methodist Imagine No Malaria campaign, preparing and serving meals to the homeless, Thanksgiving baskets, and CROP Walk. Our youth group is made up of active, fun, and kind teenagers who have servant hearts. We welcome all youth to participate with us!
